Are You and Your Feet Ready for Summer?

Summer is here, which means we’ll be breaking out the sandals and flip flops.  It’s time to get your feet into shape for all the warmer days ahead!

Our feet take a lot of pounding each and every day, so it is important to treat them well so they look great when we wear sandals and go barefoot. As each year passes, you may notice a little extra dryness, more calluses, or even discoloration, but there are some simple things you can do to keep your feet in excellent shape. Check out these tips we found on the Prevention magazine website!

It’s time to ask yourself “Are you and your feet ready for flip flop season”?

  • To take care of excess dryness, hydrate your feet daily with a foot cream right after you bathe.
  • Toenails become thicker and harder with age, due in part to pressure from your shoes. Coating your nails each night with petroleum jelly will help soften them and make them easier to trim. Additionally, you should clip and file them properly to prevent splits and ingrown nails.
  • If you have overgrown cuticles, soften them every other week by applying cuticle oil and soaking your feet in warm water for 10 minutes to loosen the skin, which will make it easier to remove.

Of course, adding a pedicure to your routine can also help keep your feet and toes looking beautiful all year long! Contact FOLAWN’S today 210-408-0101 or go to http://www.folawns.com .You can now even book your appointment through our facebook “Folawns”to schedule your next pedicure!

5 Fun Ways to Use Your BlenderBottle… What’s Up, USANA?

I knew the BlenderBottle®was an amazing invention, but I didn’t really know just how wonderful it was until I discovered how versatile it was in the kitchen! Here are five fun ways I’ve been using my Blender Bottle. Enjoy!1. Making Nutrimeal (of course). I personally love using almond, soy or rice milk for my shakes. Sometimes I’ll add some ice, a little flavoring or even some spices (like ground cinnamon or cardamom). The ball whisk helps to blend together all those great flavors together. Our office loves the BB version of Paul’s chai shake, which is 12 oz water, 3 scoops Vanilla Nutrimeal, 1 teaspoon Fibergy Plus, 1 Tbsp cinnamon, 1 Rev3 Surge, and 1 Tbs OptOmega (optional).

Shaking up an iced green tea latte! Just one of the many uses for the nifty BlenderBottle®.

2. Shaking up iced lattes. I recently discovered that the BlenderBottle is perfect for mixing up my green tea lattes, black tea lattes, and even instant espresso drinks!  My favorite is mixing green tea powder with Vanilla Nutrimeal and soy milk for a creamy, delicious shake.

3. Mixing up cocktails! Did you know you can make all kinds of adult drinks in your BlenderBottle? It kind of looks like a cocktail shaker, doesn’t it? The BB does a pretty good job of lightly macerating fruit when you shake it, too!

4. Pouring pancake batter. I always make a mess when I cook pancakes — batter everywhere and tons of dirty utensils. Now I just use my BlenderBottle to pour the precise amount of batter onto the griddle. More liquid-y batters can be mixed together in the BB itself!

5. Creating ready-to-pour salad dressings. We all know homemade salad dressings are often healthier than store-bought ones. With the BlenderBottle, we can mix up our favorite healthy dressings (or sauces) without all the mess and fuss. Try starting with a simple olive oil and balsamic vinegar base, then add your favorite fresh or dried herbs, fruit, flavor pastes (like anchovy or tomato) and shake until well combined. The spout also makes for easy pouring!

So if you’re like me, you probably have about half a dozen or more BlenderBottles in your pantry. I now have one marked specifically for cooking (e.g. making crepes, shaking up marinades, etc.) and always keep it handy in the kitchen. Do you have some fun ways that you’ve been using your BB? We’d love to know!

A Bikini Wax… Should it be done at home?

Waxing Season is here…

-Dr.Lisa Materson, CBS’s The Doctors

Q: The Weather is getting warmer .How can I make this my sexiest summer ever?

A: When you finally stow away the sweaters and break out the cute tanks, the last thing you want is furry arms! The next time you’re at the spa for your brow or under arm wax. Smooth, hair free arms are bringing the final touch to your outfit for  your sleekest , sexiest look.  An arm wax takes about a half-hour, cost $37-$70 and last four weeks all through prom season!

Q: I’ve always gone to a salon for my waxing, but some of my friends wax at home. Any tips for doing my bikini waxing at home?

A: I highly suggest that you stick with a professional technicians, especially when you’re waxing a sensitive area like the bikini area. If you wax only once in a while ,you risk hurting yourself. On a recent episode of The Doctors on CBS,Dr. Lisa stressed the importance of having a qualified technician perform the waxing service. If a waxing is not done properly, she told the audience ,infections can occur through any tears or cuts.

Brazilian Waxing Tips

A lot of women and men opt for a Brazilian waxing because they like the feeling of the entire bikini area being totally, or almost hair-free. Because of the specialty nature of this service, it requires extra care. Take note of these Brazilian waxing tips, so you can get and keep great results.

Pre Brazilian Waxing Prep:

Particularly for women.

Your skin is often more sensitive the time near your your period, and waxing can be more painful than normal. So your appointment shouldn’t be any closer than a couple of days before or after your period. Most places understandably won’t perform a Brazilian while you’re on your period.

Cleanliness.

Shower and lightly exfoliate your entire bikini area right before your appointment using warm, not hot water. Make sure you’re extra clean.

Skip this step.

Don’t use any lotions in bikini area.

Hair for now.

You need some hair growth for the wax to hold onto, but not too long which can make the waxing hurt more than it needs to. Let the technician trim hair down to just the right length at your appointment, or follow the salon’s specific instructions for trimming.

Pain preventers.

Take an aspirin or Tylenol 30- 45 minutes before your appointment if you’re worried about pain.

Post Brazilian Waxing Care:

Watch your fashion choices.

Don’t wear tight panties for the next few days.

Hands off.

Keep hands away from touching freshly waxed skin, as this can encourage irritation or small pimples

Opt for a shower.

Don’t take a hot bath for the rest of the day.

Too hot.

No tanning beds, saunas or steam rooms for the next two days.

Short-term abstinence.

Sexual activity should be avoided for at least 24 – 48 hours.

Exfoliate.

Two full days later use a mild exfoliator. My pick, an Ayate washcloth which gently exfoliates skin alone wet, or can be used with your favorite body wash, but is more mold-resistant than loofahs.

Fight the bumps.

If you get any ingrown hairs try Tend Skin, a huge favorite for getting rid of pesky ingrowns.
